ISO & Buying: Vintage Non-Sports Superman, Presidents, History, War, Star Wars & More

Hey there, I wanted to update all vintage sports and non-sports card collectors that Ogg’s Cards LLC is in search of (ISO) and wanting to buy your vintage collections. I have taken on a keen interest in vintage non-sports cards recently and made some significant acquisitions as a new direction for the company. First and foremost, I spent more than $20,000 to acquire a significant trove of over 100 PSA graded and SGC graded 1940 Superman Gum cards. All in all, the total spend has been more than $35,000 to acquire many vintage non-sports cards in recent months.

While Superman is a focus, other sets have come to attention as well. I am giving an update below, but this now goes way beyond sports. Images have been included on many different card issues to see even a fraction of what is being sought after. Without even going too deep into the pre-1900 historical figures cards, there are just too many to chase here. Here are some of the great cards and sets which are wanted!

The 1910 Stollwerck Chocolates set is a must for cards like Washington, Franklin, DaVinci, Michelangelo and so on. It’s a huge set from overseas and many people will not even know who some of the great historical figures are.

1911 T68 Men/Heroes of History from Royal Bengals little cigars are pure works of art. Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, King Louis XIV, Henry VIII, Alexander Hamilton, Custer, Joan of Arc, Sitting Bull, Geronimo and many more. I recently picked up about 50 different cards in several combined acquisitions. Prefer raw but will take in any grade that has not been retaped together.

The 1932 U.S. Caramel set of U.S. presidents is a must own collection. Ogg’s Cards has purchased probably 20 of these cards graded 1-5 in SGC and PSA. Presidents Jackson, Harrison, Taylor, and Hayes are common targets. If you have any Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington cards for sale, please let me know.

The 1933 Indian Gum set is always attractive, and it’s extensive. Greats like Geronimo, Sitting Bull, Sam Houston, Pocahontas, Custer, Osage Oil Fields, Bridger, Penn, Crockett, Boone, La Salle, Pontiac, Tecumseh and too many more to list.

The 1930 – 1939 R128 series looks a lot like the Goudey and Indian Gum cards, but the art looks like it was knocked off by an 8-year-old. Looking for Sitting Bull, Jesse James, Davy Crockett, Geronimo, Custer and many more. I was lucky enough to recently buy an entire set of the entire 48 Cards and now have to decide whether they should go set registry at PSA or get the beauty SGC tux. Also purchased was a quite rare (I’ve never seen one before) R128 strip of 4 cards still together in an uncut strip with Custer’s Last Stand, Davy Crockett at the Alamo, Deadwood Dick and also a Jesse James card.

Ogg’s Cards LLC now owns 3 of the classic and highly collectible #1 cards from the 1940 Superman Gum set. Effectively this is the “Rookie Superman” card. On top of that, there are PSA 2 to PSA 7 grades of the low-number AND high-number series in the 1940 Superman set.

If you have any 1950s Topps Freedom War cards of General Patton, please let me know! Being close to San Antonio, let’s just say that Patton collectors are not too difficult to find.

I have also acquired any cards in the 1951 Bowman Red Menace series. Several cards are the standouts here. First and foremost — if you have the “Ghost City” card for sale I want it. Ditto for “General Ike in Command” and the card featuring nuclear war.

Let’s not forget the 1962 Mars Attacks card set. This features beautiful artwork and #1 The Invasion Begins is only one of the key cards to buy. I have multiples of the #1 but always want more! Cards #17 Beast and the Beauty and the busty #21 Prime Captive cards are highly sought after. The #41 Horror in Paris eating the Eiffel Tour is a prize to own as well.

And (almost) finally, the 1977 Topps Star Wars card set has plenty of gems. I will buy any of the stickers in any condition of VG or better. They do not have to be graded. And the green series card of C3PO #207 as the “Golden Rod” error is a card I have about 10 copies to pick from — and I will buy more in any condition. Also seeking the blue set cards of Luke, Han, Obi Wan and others.

Don’t forget about the black border Wonder Bread Star Wars set either. Almost any of these cards are desirable, but they cannot have been “colored” by using a black felt pen to make the borders all black again. Luke, Obi Wan, Han, C3PO, R2D2, Darth Vader and even the Princess. It’s a small set — it was issued in bread after all.

There are too many more topics and sets to easily cover. Batman and Robin cards from the 1966 set are sought after. And lastly, any trade cards from the 1880s and any President Lincoln CVD (see below) is sought after as well — even if they are not considered tobacco or gum cards at all.
